Mission Statement and Ethos

Our Mission Statement

At Clonfert College our Catholic faith guides us in building a learning community where each person feels supported in their pursuit of excellence. We are committed to offering a nurturing, holistic education, which allows students to thrive in a safe, welcoming atmosphere of love, compassion, and respect. Guided by the teachings of Jesus, we foster a joyful, inclusive community where every student is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. Our mission is to promote equality, kindness, and fairness, while encouraging a deep sense of care for self, for others and for God's creation. With faith as our foundation, we strive to form young people who will lead with integrity, serve with compassion, and contribute positively to our community and the world.

Ethos and Values

Clonfert College is a Catholic Secondary School under the dual patronage of CEIST and the Bishop of Clonfert.

Clonfert College strives to reflect the core values of the Catholic Tradition of Education eg, a sense of the Divine, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, worship and prayer, respect for every individual, a love of learning, inclusivity of all and the creation of bonds of love among people.

A Tradition of Academic Excellence

Both St. Joseph’s College and Ardscoil Mhuire have long traditions of Academic Excellence with students achieving above the national average year upon year.

It is of fundamental importance to us that Clonfert College continues and develops this tradition to ensure that every student achieves their own unique potential.

Students from both schools have been awarded many prestigious academic scholarships in recent years. These include the JP McManus All Ireland Scholarship, the Barra Flynn Memorial Scholarship, Tormey Solicitors Law Scholarship, The Caxton Award, Entrance Scholarships to University of Limerick, University of Galway, UCD, Trinity College Dublin and Mary Immaculate College. We have also had students received the Fergal Quinn LCA Award.

Each year the students who achieved the best results in their Leaving Certificate / Exams and the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme are acknowledged during our Mercy Day celebration.

We recognise that all students, regardless of ability, should achieve success during their time in school. For this reason, we have a broad and varied selection of programmes and activities available which provides opportunities for all abilities, interests and talents to succeed.

We are especially proud of the achievements of our students with additional needs. We provide a comprehensive range of supports and interventions to assist all students to maximise their potential in school.

We recognise the many and varied achievements of our students in our annual end of year awards day which takes place on St. Joseph’s Day. This includes awards for demonstrating school spirit, friendship, living out the ethos of our school, excellence in sport, music and art, as well as recognising students who demonstrated exceptional academic ability during the year.
